 Karl

"I need something for Sofia, Solcheck. She never answers my letters these days, and that creepy one-eyed janitor's been hanging round her ever since he dodged the call up. He's fuck ugly, but he's the only fuck in our building, and Sofia's got wandering eyes, I tell you. She's oversexed."

Hello.

My name is Karl. I am from Leningrad.

I have been posted here to near Prague for the last 3 weeks, and I'm bored and cold. I'm on patrol here, in the Northwest quarter, with Sol (he calls himself Solcheck) He is ok I suppose, but a bit boring, and always nagging me.

Personally, I see a dead body?.... why not check it for anything you can get?

I mean... they don't need it any more, do they? And I do.

Sofia's my girlfriend. So she said. Back in Leningrad. She likes presents, you know?

She was writing for a while, if you can can call her scrawl writing. But it's less now. I can't wait to get back home. These Czechs stink.. Especially the dead ones. There's some nice girls though. I would definitely go for one if I had a chance.

Karl is played by Jonathan Brown

From January to May 1945, the Russian Army moved west liberating Poland and Czechoslovakia.

Come back soon for lots more about the play, the characters, the background and the era.
